語源

Rebracketed from nouns in -tum () ending in tum; perhaps from veprētum (a thicket of bramble), from veprēs, or the early-attested olētum. Starting with a vowel, its hability to be attached to any noun stem likely helped the suffix to supplant -tum.

Compare to other neuter suffixes that can form nouns representing locations, such as rium n, -īle n, -tōrium n (vs. masculine -ārius,-īlis, -tōrius).

発音
