a drug used to treat some types of testicular cancer. it is also used to treat a higher-than-normal amounts of calcium in the blood or urine. mithracin binds to dna and prevents cells from making rna and proteins. it is a type of antineoplastic antibiotic. also called plicamycin and mithramycin.

一部の種類の精巣腫瘍の治療に用いられる薬物。血中または尿中のカルシウム濃度が異常に高くなった状態の治療にも用いられる。mithracinは、dnaに結合して細胞内でのrnaと蛋白の合成を阻害する。抗腫瘍性抗生物質の一種である。「plicamycin（プリカマイシン）」、「mithramycin（ミトラマイシン）」とも呼ばれる。
