語源
It may be a denominative to a root noun *sōlh₂- (“mercy, comfort”), from Proto-Indo-European *selh₂-. Cognate with Ancient Greek ἱλάσκομαι (hiláskomai, “to appease”) and perhaps Old Armenian աղաչեմ (ałačʻem, “to pray”). The traditional comparison by Pokorny to Proto-Germanic *sēliz (“happy, kind, fortunate”) (whence English silly) does not seem to be supported by later linguists.
