1. (An order to observe) a (temporary) speed restriction.
   • 1961 March, "Balmore", “Driving and firing modern French steam locomotives”, in Trains Illustrated, page 147:

     We had a long 20 m.p.h. speed order of perhaps 7 miles' duration some 60 miles from Aulnoye and André told me to get some 8min in hand with our heavy train to offset this. [...] When we had passed the speed order, we were about 4min behind time, but we had regained nearly all the time by Creil.
