The Computer Journal is a journal published by the Oxford University Press on behalf of the British Computer Society. It contains peer-reviewed articles and other contributions on computer science and information systems. Its first issue appeared in 1958, and it has been published continually since. Several breakthroughs in computer science were first reported in the journal, including the Quicksort algorithm proposed by C. A. R. Hoare. The authors of the best paper in each volume receive the Wilkes Award and Medal granted by the British Computer Society. In 2009, the winners include Dr. Boleslaw Szymanski and Dr. Chen of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
