ウイルスを用いる治療法で、製造ラボにおいて特殊な操作を加えることによって、正常細胞には害を与えることなくがん細胞を探し出して破壊する性質をもたせたウイルスが用いられる。標的療法の一種である。「oncolytic virotherapy（腫瘍溶解性ウイルス療法）」、「oncolytic virus therapy（腫瘍溶解性ウイルス療法）」、「viral therapy（ウイルス療法）」とも呼ばれる。
