Boxbe is a service that purports to screen spam in personal email. It presents a challenge to the sender that requires a human response. Marketers can get email through the screen for a fee. However, Boxbe is considered by some security experts to be malware, because when a user enrolls in the service, Boxbe repeatedly sends unsolicited emails to the new user's contacts. Moreover, it "spoofs" the user's email address, making it appear as though the user is recommending the service to his or her contacts.
