KXXM San Antonio, "Mix 96.1" is a Top 40 (CHR) station owned by Clear Channel Communications. Signed on as a rock-based CHR in 1998, 96.1 was then purchased by Inner City Broadcasting and the format was changed to Adult R&B. In 1998, Inner City sold KSJL FM to Clear Channel for $10 million. Clear Channel would move KSJL to 760am and then eventually simicast on 92.5. Even before that, two other radio stations graced the same frequency: Q96 KSAQ a Top 40 radio station until 1991 and 96 Rock KSAQ a competitor to 99.5 KISS until 1993.
