Ignasi Guardans i Cambó (Catalan pronunciation: [iɡˈnazi ɣwərˈðans]; born on 18 May 1964 in Barcelona, Catalonia) is a Spanish former politician. Up to now his last responsibilities have been as Director General of the Spanish Institute for Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA)[1], the Spanish Film Agency which is part of the Spanish Ministry of Culture. He held this job between April 2009 and October 2010. A lawyer by training and with some experience in legal practice, he started his political activity in 1995 to run for election in the Catalan Parliament [2] , where he remained for a very short time before jumping to national politics in the Spanish Parliament (Congreso de los Diputados Congreso de los Diputados). He was elected within the lists of CDC Democratic Convergence of Catalonia in two consecutive terms, 1996–2000 and 2000-2004. In June 2004 he was elected to the European Parliament, where he joined the ALDE Group, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats (2004–2009).
