Newisys, a Server and Storage company with expertise in glue-chips for Opterons, based in Austin, Texas, was founded by Phil Hester (who later was AMD's CTO from 2005 till 2008) in 2000, and was acquired in 2004 by manufacturer Sanmina-SCI. In 2006, the company acquired the "bloc" product division of Adaptec (essentially the products that weren't Snap or HBAs), expanding the storage offering to rack-mount JBOD and RAID systems.
