1. 'The rook ford' or 'Rook's ford', from 古期英語 hrōc (“rook”), genitive plural hrōca + ford, or else from 古期英語 personal name Hrōc, genitive singular Hrōces + ford (respectively).
2. 'Ford of the hunting dogs', from 古期英語 ræċċ (“hunting dog”), genitive singular ræċċes (the vowel later assimilated to that of Old French roche (“rock, cliff”)) + ford.
