From Latin Samaria, from Ancient Greek Σαμάρεια (Samáreia), partial calque of Biblical Hebrew שֹׁמְרוֹן (Šōmərôn). Attested in Akkadian as 𒆳𒊓𒈨𒊑𒈾 (Sāmerīna).
