From coaptō (“to coapt”) + -tiō (“-tion”). Calque of Ancient Greek ᾰ̔ρμονῐ́ᾱ (hărmonĭ́ā, “harmony”), which was borrowed into Latin as harmonia. Coined by Christian theologian, philosopher, and saint Augustine of Hippo.
