   • 8 CE, Ovid, Fasti 2.453–454:

     tū dēsine crēdere ventīs: perdidit illīus temporis aura fidem

     You should cease to trust the winds: at that season, the breeze has lost trustworthiness.
     Or, Don't trust the winds: the breeze is unreliable that time of year.
     (Ovid warns his readers about the weather in February.)

Conjugation

On several places we find the syncope form "dēsi, dēsis, dēsit..." in place of "dēsii, dēsiis, dēsiit...".
