From Proto-West Germanic *frosk, from Proto-Germanic *fruskaz.
Cognate with Old Frisian *frosk, Old Saxon *frosk, Old Dutch forsk, Old High German frosc, Old Norse froskr.
The declension table below shows the inherited distribution of *sk, but leveling may also have occurred; see wūsc for more. That the nom.-acc. sg. had hard *sk at least variably is suggested by the metathesized form frox.
