monotrope (plural monotropes)

1. (botany) Any plant belonging to the Monotropoideae.
2. (chemistry, geology) A polymorph that does not have a reversible transformation into another form; A polymorphic crystal for which one form is more stable than any other form when cooled below the melting point.

     Since α-carbamazepine is a monotrope of γ-carbamazepine, and γ-carbamazepine is an enantiotrope of β-carbamazepine, the physical stability hierarchy depends on the transition temperature of β- and γ-carbamazepine.
