1 [形容詞・副詞の比較級を伴って]
a [比較の対象となる副詞節を導いて] …よりも 《★【用法】 than に続く節では主節と共通する部分が略されることが多い》.
b [関係代名詞的に用いて] …よりも 《★【用法】 目的語・主語・補語の役を兼ねもつ用法》.
2 [rather，sooner などを伴って] …するより(むしろ), するくらいなら(いっそ).
3 a [other，otherwise，else などを伴って; しばしば否定文で] …よりほかの，…よりほかには.
b [different，differently を伴って] 《米口語》 …とは(違った[て]).
4 [Scarcely [Hardly，Barely]+had+主語+ 過分 の形で用いて] 《口語》 ＝when 《★no sooner…than の混同による誤用から》.
1 a [目的格の人称代名詞を伴って] 《口語》 …よりも (⇒接続詞 1a 【用法】).
b [ever，before，usual などの前に用いて] …よりも.
