A Raid Processing Unit is an Integrated Circuit designed to implement RAID for persistent storage devices. The RPU performs calculations, such as XOR, to maintain data integrity over all connected drives in an array. RAID calculations can be performed by the computer's central processing unit (CPU), but using a separate specialized chip for this task can save much array built time and increases overall usage performance.
