A Vanaprastha (Sanskrit: वनप्रस्थ) is a person who is living in the forest as a hermit after partially giving up material desires. Vanaprastha ashram is the stage of life in the Vedic ashram system, when a person one gradually withdraws from the world. For a Grihastha (household life) this stage comes after completion of household duties, but one can enter into it straight from second that is Brahmacharya (student life) ashram.
