From Middle English welken, probably from a continental Germanic language; compare Middle Dutch welken (Dutch welken) and Middle Low German welken. Cognate with German welken. Ultimately, from Proto-West Germanic *wilkijan (“to become soft”), from Proto-Germanic *welkaz (“soft, withered”). Compare also 古期英語 wealwian (“to fade, wither”), 古期英語 wlacu (“tepid, lukewarm”).
welk (三人称単数 現在形 welks, 現在分詞 welking, 過去形および過去分詞形 welked)
