Hurricane Dora was the fourth named storm, second hurricane and second of six major hurricanes of the 1964 Atlantic hurricane season. Dora made landfall on the First Coast region of Florida (more specifically, St. Johns County) just after midnight on September 10, 1964. Dora is the only hurricane to directly make landfall in the First Coast region from the east since reliable record-keeping began in 1851. Dora was also the first storm to produce hurricane force winds to Jacksonville, Florida in the almost 80 years of record keeping. Dora left two billion dollars (2005 USD) in damage, most of it in Florida, but only five fatalities (1 direct, 4 indirect) due to advanced warnings. Dora was one of three hurricanes to affect Florida during the 1964 season, the others being Cleo and Isbell.
