From a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia , from Celtic, either from Proto-Celtic *mino- (“smooth”) (compare Welsh mwyn, Irish mín), from Proto-Indo-European *mei- (“soft, smooth”)^[1] or from Proto-Indo-European *mei- (“to go”).^[2]

Possibly from Latin minium.^[2]
