Mission Health System, formerly known as Mission St. Joseph's Health System, is located in Asheville, North Carolina. Mission Health System was formed in 1998 through the merger of Memorial Mission Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital, both located in Asheville. It also includes McDowell Hospital in Marion, North Carolina and Blue Ridge Community Hospital in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Today the Mission Hospital is licensed for 800 beds, houses two campuses, respectively called the Memorial campus and the St. Joseph campus. It is the referral center for Western North Carolina and the largest employer in the state west of Charlotte with approximately 7000 employees.
