Dr.Neeraj Patil (Kannada:ನೀರಜ್ ಪಾಟೀಲ್) was the First Mayor of Asian origin in the London Borough of Lambeth from 2010-2011, He is a Consultant in Accident and Emergency Mediciine who completed followship from the prestigeous " Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was first elected as a Labour councillor for the Larkhall ward in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. The important event during his mayorality was to receive The Pope Benidict the IX during his offical visit to Lambeth on 18th Sep 2010. This was the first papal vist to the London Borough of Lambeth. He was awarded the highest civilian award by Government of Karnataka " The Rajotsava Award" in the year 2008 for promoting accountable democracy in India.
