「next」は、「直後の」や「次に来る」を意味する英単語である。時間や順序において、現在の状態や位置の直後に続くものを指す。具体的な時間や日付が指定されていない場合でも、一連の事象やアイテムの中で「次に」来るものを指す。
「next week」(来週)、「next time」(次回)、「next door」(隣)などのフレーズでよく使われる。
"I will see you next week."(来週お会いしましょう)
"The next train is in 10 minutes."(次の電車は10分後です)
"She lives in the next house."(彼女は隣の家に住んでいます)
「following」は、「次の」や「その後の」を意味する英単語である。特定の事象や時間の直後に起こる事象を指す。また、文章や発言の中で前述した事項に続いて述べられる事項を指すこともある。
「following day」(翌日)、「following year」(翌年)、「following statement」(次の声明)などのフレーズでよく使われる。
