Probably borrowed from Sabine, from Proto-Italic *stregsno-, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *streg-sno-, from *(s)treg-, *(s)terg- (“to be stiff, rigid, strong”), and cognate with Old Irish trén (“strong”), Icelandic þrek (“strength”).
