The Van Alen Building is a modern apartment and penthouse block on the seafront in Brighton, part of the English city of Brighton and Hove. It was named after William Van Alen, the architect of New York City's Chrysler Building. The London-based architecture firm PRC Fewster's 21st-century interpretation of the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne styles, completed in 2001, quickly became a popular addition to the city's building stock, and its 38 apartments and penthouses sold out almost immediately when they went on sale more than a year beforehand. Opinion varies on the block's visual impact on surrounding 19th-century Regency-style buildings on Marine Parade, but the building has been praised for its innovation and has even been compared to the iconic Embassy Court further along the seafront.
