From convehō (“carry”), with semantic development "carried or moving along" > "inclined, arched"; compare also dēvexus (“sloping down”). The traditional derivation from Proto-Indo-European *wenk- (“to be bent or bowed”), whence Sanskrit वञ्च् (vañc, “to move crookedly”), is phonetically implausible.
First/second-declension adjective.
