An alteration, with the first element replaced by myddel, of earlier myddenerd; from 古期英語 middaneard, in turn an alteration of 古期英語 middanġeard; derived from Proto-Germanic *midjagardaz. Equivalent to myddel +‎ erd; first attested in c. 1180.
