From 中期英語 quemen (“to please”), from 古期英語 cwēman (“to gratify, satisfy, please”) (compare cwēme (“pleasant, agreeable, acceptable”) and cwēmnes (“pleasure, satisfaction, mitigation”)), from Proto-West Germanic *kwāmijan, from Proto-Germanic *kwēmijaną (“to please, be convenient, suit”), from *kwemaną (“to come”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷem- (“to go, come”). Compare obsolete Swedish kväma, Danish kvemme. Related to 古期英語 cuman (“to come”), English come. Compare also quim.
