Marie Jules César Lelorgne de Savigny (or Lelorgue de Savigny), born on 5 April 1777 at Provins and died on 5 October 1851 at Galès in Yvelines, was a French zoologist. In 1805 he published Natural and Mythological History of the Ibis and between 1816 and 1820 the important Mémoires on the animals without vertebrae. He took part in Napoleon's in Egyptian campaign as a zoologist specializing in the invertebrates (1798-1802). On his return, and between 1809 to 1813, he prepared around fifty plates illustrating the insects collected in Egypt. But, becoming blind he could not complete the text. Victor Audouin offered to complete the work but Savigny refused to part with the original artwork. Savigny was on elected member of the Academy of Science July 30, 1821.
