The N8 Group consists of the eight most research-intensive universities in northern England. Rather than being a lobbying group (such as the Russell Group), it is a research partnership intended to enhance collaboration between the universities in the group. The N8 universities undertake more than £650 million of research income per annum and employ over 8,200 academic staff, thus making N8 the largest research-pooling partnership ever undertaken in the UK. N8 also works closely with industry to ensure businesses have an efficient and effective route to access world-class research from 8 leading universities through a single point in key markets.
