1998, Toru Ishida, Community Computing: Collaboration Over Global Information Networks:
-
an agentified person resulting from augmenting human communicative capability, or it can be a software agent that behaves on behalf of the user. We wrap each person in an agent because people are already threatened by information overload but nevertheless they have a certain responsibility for the outside world. We attempt to develop a useful agentification that allows each person to play a social role by providing an intelligent information management facility. In practice, there are many types of agents that fall somewhere between these two extremes, depending on the amount of authority delegated to the agent.

2025 June 8, Satyadhar Joshi, Review of Autonomous and Collaborative Agentic AI and Multi Agent Systems for Enterprise Applications:
-
The shift of the assistants to agents means the shift in the role of just answering questions to actually acting out. With businesses already adopting this so-called agentification of AI to scale up and take advantage of platformization, faster decisions and running of businesses are proving very much achievable.
