1. (taxonomy) Any annelid worm of the genus Chaetopterus.
   • 1843, Anders Sandøe Ørsted, Annulatorum danicorum conspectus, page 7:

     Cum his Chætopteri sp. et species generis novi (?), quarum tantummodo specimina tam mutilata observavi, ut eas describere non potuerim, addantur, totus numerus Annulatorum hujus ordinis ad faunum Danicam pertinentium ad quadraginta octo, quarum 25-24 omnino novæ sunt, crescit.

     When these Chaetopterus sp. and species of a new genus (?), of which I have only observed specimens so mutilated that I could not describe them, are added, the total number of annulated worms of this order belonging to the Danish fauna increases to forty-eight, of which 25-24 are entirely new.
