EAST-ADL is a modeling language defined as a domain-specific language for the development of automotive electronic systems. The modeling element consists of different entities to represent the embedded system (requirements, features, desired behaviors, software, and hardware components) and their dependencies (refinement, allocation, composition, communication, etc.). EAST-ADL can be used to model the structural aspects of automotive elements and describe the dependendencies between them. An EAST-ADL model is a partial or so-called non-isomorphic model in the sense that only specific aspects of the overall system are modelled. For example, information related to the system implementation in software is the concern of AUTOSAR and not modelled by EAST-ADL elements. Further, behavioural models for simulation or code generation are only supported as references from EAST-ADL functions to external models, such as a subsystem in MATLAB/Simulink.
