From 中期英語 blench and blenchen, from 古期英語 blenċan (to deceive, cheat), from Proto-Germanic *blankijaną (to deceive), from Proto-Indo-European *leyǵ-. Cognate with Icelandic blekkja (to deceive, cheat, impose upon).
