Inherited from the Middle English consoude, consowde, consol, consold, consaud, consaude, from the 古期英語 consolde, borrowed from the Old French consolde, consoulde, consoude, inherited from the Latin cōnsolida (“common confrey”), so called because of its supposed healing power.
