From Ancient Greek Δάκοι (Dákoi, name of a tribe), of long disputed origin and meaning; see Dacians. Some writers used the tribe name Getae to describe them. Suspected to be related to Δάοι (Dáoi), but this is also uncertain. Suffixed with -ia to signify a location.
