lese (third-person singular simple present leses, present participle lesing, simple past lore, past participle lorn)
Inherited from 古期英語 lǣs, lēs, from Proto-West Germanic *lāsu. The form is from the 古期英語 oblique cases but with the nominative's lack of -w- leveled in; collateral forms such as leyes likely reflect reinterpretation as the plural of leye in dialects where this word was not native.
Doublet of leswe, which retains the -w-; compare the parallel pairs mede:medwe and schade:schadwe.
