皮膚の組織から発生するがん。皮膚がんにはいくつかの種類が存在する。メラニン形成細胞（色素を作る皮膚の細胞）から発生する皮膚がんは黒色腫と呼ばれる。基底細胞（皮膚の外層の底部に存在する小さくて円形の細胞）から発生する皮膚がんは基底細胞がんと呼ばれる。扁平上皮細胞（皮膚の表面を構成する扁平な細胞）から発生する皮膚がんは扁平上皮がん（有棘細胞がん）と呼ばれる。神経内分泌細胞（神経系の刺激に反応してホルモンを放出する細胞）から発生する皮膚がんは、皮膚の神経内分泌がんと呼ばれる。皮膚がんの大半は、高齢者の日光に曝された身体部位か、免疫系の機能が弱まっている人に発生する。
