The Rt Rev Peter Chiswell was Bishop of Armidale from 1976 to 1999.
He was born on 18 February 1934 and educated at the University of New South Wales. Ordained in 1959, he began his career with a curacy at Quirindi, New South Wales. He then held incumbencies in Bingara and Gunnedah. From 1971 to 1976 he was Archdeacon of Tamworth when he was elevated to the Episcopate. A dedicated bushwalker and environmentalist, he is now retired.
