1. (informal) A member of the species Drunella flavilinea, a species of spiny crawler mayfly found in Central and North America as far north as Canada, used in fly fishing.

     I consider the flav (commonly known as the lesser or small western green drake) to be the most important drake found in the Snake River watershed. From my own informal research within the watershed, this drake is far more common than any other drake. Flavs are crawlers as nymphs, and the streambed of the entire river and of almost every tributary is conducive to crawler nymphs. I find flavilinea nymphs almost everywhere I fish in the Snake River corridor.
