1. (logic) Of or relating to a truth function; having a truth value that depends solely on the truth values of its components.
   • 1944, Rudolf Carnap, Introduction to Semantics, Harvard University Press, page 48:

     Compound sentences are called truth‑functional if their truth-value is a function of the truth-values of their component sentences.

使用する際の注意点

The standard truth-functional connectives are negation (¬, ~), conjunction (∧, &), disjunction (∨), implication (→, ⊃), and biconditional (↔, ≡). A compound sentence that is not truth-functional (e.g., "It is necessary that P") is non-truth-functional.
