「unfortunately」は、何かが思ったように進まなかったり、期待外れの結果になったときに使われる表現である。特に、自分自身や他人にとって不利益な結果や状況を伝える際に用いられる。
「unfortunately」は、"we", "I", "the result", "the situation"などと一緒に使われやすい。これらはそれぞれ「我々」「私」「結果」「状況」を意味する。
1. Unfortunately, we lost the game.(残念ながら、我々は試合に負けた。)
2. Unfortunately, I missed the train.(残念ながら、私は電車に乗り遅れた。)
3. Unfortunately, the situation has not improved.(残念ながら、状況は改善していない。)
「regrettably」は、「unfortunately」と同様に、何かが思ったように進まなかったり、期待外れの結果になったときに使われる表現である。ただし、「regrettably」は「unfortunately」よりも少しフォーマルな響きがあり、公式な文書やスピーチなどでよく用いられる。
「regrettably」は、"the decision", "the outcome", "the situation"などと一緒に使われやすい。これらはそれぞれ「決定」「結果」「状況」を意味する。
1. Regrettably, the decision has been made to cancel the event.(残念ながら、イベントの中止が決定された。)
2. Regrettably, the outcome was not as expected.(残念ながら、結果は期待通りではなかった。)
3. Regrettably, the situation has worsened.(残念ながら、状況は悪化した。)
