[…] If the hamza would have been retained when the South Arabian elistic names were borrowed into Arabic and lost at a later moment in time, one would expect […] In the North Arabian Arabic inscriptions written in Greek, elistic names in which the theophoric element occurs in post-vocalic position are consistently spelled with epsilon […] Conclusions […] That this vowel was originally long and was not the result of compensatory lengthening is further supported by the attestation of other South Arabian onomastics in Arabic, as well as by Greek transcriptions of South Arabian elistic names.
