Zhenzhou Puhua (Ch. traditional: 鎮州普化, simplified: 普化, pinyin: Zhenzhou Pǔhuà; Ja. rōmaji: Jinshu Fuke—ca. 770-840 or 860 {see below}) was an obscure Chinese Chán (J. Zen) bhikku-priest, notorious for the briefly alleged history of his life concerning his unusually-absurd personality and character, his interactions with notable Chán patriarchs in China, and most notably for his peculiar, indistinct and yet essential connection to the origin of the ephemeral and cryptic Fuke (J. 普化禪; Fuke-shū) [sub-]sect of Japanese Zen Buddhism, which flourished during the nation's Medieval period and is in the present considered defunct.
