1. (colloquial, derogatory) An obnoxious or contemptible person.

     I can't argue, but in todays market, moderately well-paid geek work is better than low paid geek work. At least I have a voice, and that's my point. The deluded bastiches actually read what I write, and sometimes act accordingly.

     No, that's how those "cottage industries", to use your words, get started. The crap begins when some bastich in a suit sees that the small entrepreneur is making money, and wants in on the deal: "I see your idea is working, and I want a piece of it, so I'll play organizer for you in exchange for the lion's share of the profits. Unless, of course, you WANT to stay small forever - we can make sure you stay THAT way, too." The person who actually "thought of the idea" in the first place eventually becomes inconsequential in terms of the money-making engine.
