1. (astrology) Face, one of three parts into which each zodiac sign is divided; a decan.

From Medieval Latin decānātus, from Latin decānus. Equivalent to Latin decānus +‎ -ate (forms nouns denoting rank or office, here the concrete charge of it). Compare dean.
