From vōbīs (“you”) + -cum (“with”).
Cicero offered as an etymological explanation that the opposite order cum nōbīs was avoided because it would sound 'obscene', that is, a bit like cunnō bis 'twice by the cunt'. (Final /m/ can assimilate to a following consonant.)
