     I think that Efnet and IRCnet, among others, prove that nick/chanserv is not an indispensible requirement, as long as you have reasonable alternatives (eggdrop bots, etc.) Indeed some folk I know even object to eggies on a channel and will avoid them like the proverbial plague!
